One Response to Citizens Advisory Committee

  1. David Bellenger says:

My family has lived at 2014 Forest Lake Drive for over 20 years now. We raised our children here and have enjoyed a wonderful quality of life during that time. Over time, the neighborhood has seen a marked increase in traffic and crime. A few years ago, the Forest Lake Neighborhood Association presented a professionally studied plan to the city for consideration. This plan was, in a nutshell, the exact opposite of the new recovery plan. The old plan called for greater SECLUSION of the neighborhood with limited points of entry and traffic calming by making the busiest streets (our street especially) dead-ended or one-way. This plan was paid for at great expense by the Association. The city was patiently patronizing towards this effort but it soon became apparent to me that the city was not genuinely interested in helping us with any real or useful solutions as nothing changed. Now, the new recovery plan calls for a PUBLIC green-path to be literally IN OUR BACK YARD!!!??? Needless to say, I could not believe what I was seeing as I studied the plan map. The very last thing we want is any more exposure to the public. Any sense of privacy, much less of real security, will in an instant be gone forever from our home should such an outrageous and inconsiderate plan be implemented by the city on our property. I am diametrically 110% opposed to this aspect of the plan and am quite certain I am not alone in this as many other homeowners are also affected by the proposed ” green path ” . The Storm caused great damage to our HOUSE in April. Now it appears that in July, the city is intent on destroying the very things that make that structure a HOME : a peaceful refuge from the public with some sense of safety and security. I would suggest the planners slow down a bit and give this matter some greater thought and meet with the homeowners individually who, like myself directly border any of the proposed development. This small consideration will be the BEST investment the city can make at this time before the situation quickly devolves into a legal nightmare for all involved.
