AT&T Pinoeers Donate 150 Trees to Tuscaloosa Storm Recovery

March 27, 2012 –Since the City of Tuscaloosa lost so many trees in the April 27th storm, AT&T Pioneers worked with the Alabama Forestry Department to donate 150 trees to the assist in the City’s storm recovery efforts. At&T Pioneers, who are employees and retirees of the Tuscaloosa area, volunteered their time immediately after the storm at Temporary Emergency Services and Forest Lake Baptist Church and continue to volunteer in the community three days a week. Thank you AT&T Pioneers for all you do!


Artist pledges proceeds to Tuscaloosa Storm Recovery Fund

The City of Tuscaloosa would like to thank Jose C. Pereira, also known as Red Moon, for pledging to donate a portion of his proceeds from his new book of poetry, “In the Time of Our Innocence Pure,” to the Tuscaloosa Storm Recovery Fund. Red Moon is a Venezuelan native who currently lives in Newark, New Jersey. His inspiration ranges from daily activities, to history and to current events including the storm that devastated Tuscaloosa, Alabama on April 27, 2011. Help Tuscaloosa win in the Reader’s Digest “We Hear You America” Campaign

Tuscaloosa has a chance to win national recognition and vital funds in cash prizes by mobilizing our residents to vote in the We Hear You America campaign from Reader’s Digest.

Town residents, school alumni, relatives in other cities, friends, associates – anyone can vote and vote as many times as they want. The town with the most votes wins, so the more people we can get involved, the better our town’s chances of winning.

Voting is easy – just go to We Hear You America. By uploading photos and stories of our town, we also have a chance to be featured in Reader’s Digest stories about the best towns in America.

Donations to the “City of Tuscaloosa Storm Recovery Fund” support long-term recovery efforts in the City of Tuscaloosa and surrounding communities. The City of Tuscaloosa Storm Recovery Fund supports five (5) critical needs: Public Services; Parks and Green Spaces; Education; Social Services; and Public Infrastructure.

Does the City of Tuscaloosa need my donation to the Storm Recovery Fund? Yes! Through the strategic use of donated funds, real estate, tangible goods, and services, the City has the opportunity to advance the quality of life in Tuscaloosa and move forward. The widespread devastation that the City suffered as a result of the April 27, 2011 tornado caused unprecedented losses in just six minutes that wiped out 12% of our city including over 5,000 homes, three elementary schools, and entire city departments and their assets.

City of Tuscaloosa Storm Recovery Fund Sells April 27th Commemorative Magnets & Bracelets

Tuscaloosa, Ala. – As an initiative of Tuscaloosa Forward, the City of Tuscaloosa Storm Recovery Fund will be selling awareness bracelets and car magnets for $5 and $10, respectively, at the Tuscaloosa Water Department and Tuscaloosa Revenue Department to remind citizens of the positive progress the City has made since the April 27th, 2011 tornado.  Items can also be purchased by clicking on the “Commemorative Items” tab or by clicking here.

The silicone houndstooth bracelets, featuring the Tuscaloosa Forward logo, come with an inspirational insert describing the resilient spirit of our citizens since the storm. The car magnets also feature the Tuscaloosa Forward logo and houndstooth awareness ribbon with an encouraging message of our City’s recovery.

A 15 percent discount will be awarded for purchasing 10 or more magnets and/or 20 or more bracelets. These commemorative items are available at the Tuscaloosa Water Department located on the first floor of City Hall Annex 3 at 2201 University Boulevard and the Tuscaloosa Revenue Department located in the same building on the third floor. Both offices are open 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday thru Friday.

All proceeds will aid in the long-term recovery efforts in the City of Tuscaloosa and surrounding communities through the Storm Recovery Fund which supports five critical needs: Public Services; Park and Green Spaces; Education, Social Services and Programming for Youth; Housing; and Public Infrastructure.
